TRANSFORMING FROM ENTREPRENEURSHIP TO GROWTH
The Business Growth Center has long been an integral facet of entrepreneurship and small business support in the Pioneer Valley. It remains true to its original vision yet has simultaneously been transformed over the years, influenced by economic and organizational change.
Founded as the Springfield Enterprise Center in 1999, the Center was the brainchild of then Springfield Technical Community College President Andrew Scibelli. He saw it as an economic engine driving the city of Springfield and designed it as a workforce development hub for high school and college students and the community. The Center and the building were eventually renamed the Andrew M. Scibelli Enterprise Center.
Over time, the Center has shifted its focus from entrepreneurship to growth to best –serve and meet the needs of businesses in the Pioneer Valley. Rebranded the Business Growth Center in 2013, the Center is now primarily supported by the Springfield Technology Park as well as its programs’ revenues and state grants. It is a dynamic and resourceful organization for the western Massachusetts region with signature educational and advisory programs focused on small business growth and clean energy/cleantech.
